I’m fighting for my son’s future

The most important thing you can do this #GivingTuesday? Fight for Élio's future.

Dear Lorelei,

6 months ago my life changed.

My beautiful, sweet, happy son Élio came into our lives and somehow every cliché came true. Time has flown by. He is my world. And when he was born everything turned upside down for us, but in the best possible way.

But there is another thing that changed when he was born - the sheer sense of urgency and terror that I personally feel about what's happening to our planet.

Today is #GivingTuesday, and I want to ask you to chip in anything you can to help us fight for my son Élio's - and all of our children's - future.

For the next few hours only, your fellow 350.org supporters are offering to match any #GivingTuesday gift you make dollar for dollar up to $20,000.

I'll be honest, I can't really talk about this without crying, but when the IPCC report came out (and then just last week, the alarming National Climate Assessment) giving us just 10 years to change our ways before the climate warms to catastrophic levels, my heart stopped. Élio won't even be a teenager in 10 years and the window is so very short. He went from newborn to 6 months old so fast, 10 years is just nothing.

That's why I really hope we can rely on your support today. I've been with 350.org for four years now, and I truly feel like there is no other organization that is more impactful and more focused on who is really to blame for climate change.

With just 10 years to protect our communities from unimaginable climate impacts, we're scaling up and fast. From delaying fossil fuel projects, to mobilizing community-led actions, to pressuring cities and institutions to divest from fossil fuel money -- we're planning bigger, bolder actions than ever before in 2019.

And big, bold action is the ONLY thing that is going to help protect my son's future. Will you make a gift to support our work today and have your gift doubled?

As a mom, the future of this planet is a super personal issue to me. It's my job to make sure that when Élio grows up he's not living in a completely shattered world. And even if you don't have kids, I hope you'll make a generous gift today to support this fight - we need you with us and we all need to fight for our future.

Thank you,

Beta
