Housing happenings, city and state!

Lorelei --

After several quiet months on the housing front, things are starting to move—all at once, as always seems to happen. If you've engaged at all in our housing campaign, you know: housing and climate are intricately connected, and affordable and plentiful urban housing is a climate justice issue. Two fights are front and center this month:

  • In Seattle, for years now, people who don't want their neighborhoods to change at all have been battling MHA ("Mandatory Housing Affordability"), Seattle's first "inclusionary zoning". It's been a messy fight, and MHA works better in some places than in others, but it's a net win for housing—and we need housing. Now it's coming down to the wire, and the City Council needs to know we don't want them to water down the up-zones with amendments. Can you take a few seconds to let the Council know that you support a strong MHA? And can you also come to the last MHA hearing, or the committee meeting for the final vote?

MHA Public Hearing, Thursday, February 21, 5:30 pm Council Chambers, 600 4th Ave, Seattle, WA 98104 (Facebook event here)
MHA Committee Discussion: Final Amendments / Committee Vote, Monday February 25, 2019, 2:30 pm or after City Council

We'll be especially busy throughout the rest of the legislative session. To stay up-to-date by being on our Housing Team list, reply to this email!

For a welcoming and livable city,
Alice and the rest of the Housing Team
