Hi Lorelei,
Climate change is the biggest crisis of our time–and its happening now. Just recently, we hear that flood and landslides happened in Bandung and Tasikmalaya, West Java. Now, we also hear similar disaster intensifying its impacts affecting millions of people around the world, the health of our planet, and driving species' extinction. It disproportionately affects the people and communities globally who have contributed the least to creating this emergency.
Next month, at COP24, governments will lay out the rules to implement the Paris Agreement. We need to them to keep warming below 1.5°C. We need real commitments to keep fossil fuels in the ground and urgently transition towards 100% renewable energy for all. These are the People's Demands – nothing less will do.
Tell the Government of Indonesia representatives you stand for the People's Demands here.
Because this crisis requires urgent, vital, and ambitious action, we've partnered with allies and civil society groups to make the People's Demands for climate justice heard loud and clear ahead of COP24.
Here are the People's Demands:
- Keep fossil fuels in the ground.
- Reject false solutions that are displacing real, people-first solutions to the climate crisis.
- Advance real solutions that are just, feasible, and essential.
- Honor climate finance obligations to developing countries.
- End corporate interference in, and capture of, the climate talks.
- Ensure developed countries honor their "fair shares" for largely fueling this crisis.
We'll deliver these demands to government delegates and urge them to push against Big Polluters' dangerous distractions. We will listen to the voices of those most impacted by climate change and push for strong action.
It's simple — to keep global warming below 1.5°C, coal, oil and gas needs to stay in the ground. Add your name to the People's Demands to call on governments to make this happen.
In solidarity,
Toni
