Lorelei -- Last month, 200 young people with the Sunrise youth movement sat in at Nancy Pelosi's office to demand that Democratic leadership support the Green New Deal resolution, a national plan to meet the climate crisis with the urgency that science and justice demand. Since then, thousands of people across the country have been taking action to tell their representatives to support the resolution, and 22 representatives in Congress have signed on. In just the last two days, three more representatives have signed on! On Monday, we're calling on Rep. Pramila Jayapal to fight alongside us. Join us at Third Avenue Cafe (1908 3rd Ave.) at 3:30 pm for a brief training before walking to her office to ask her to support the #GreenNewDeal! Sunrisers from across the country will be showing up in person to call on their Representatives to endorse the resolution. Sign up to join us on Monday in telling Representative Jayapal that her constituents support the Green New Deal resolution!
According to the journalist David Roberts, "this represents perhaps the first time in US history that a Democrat has proposed a plan for addressing climate change that actually scales to the problem and has some chance of influencing the party's agenda." This moment in time is so important and we can't let up now.
If you can't make it, please call, tweet, and write to Jayapal and other representatives on Monday. Here is information on how you can take action. In solidarity and hope, Jess Wallach, 350 Seattle
PS We at 350 Seattle are working with Sunrise to support youth leadership on the Green New Deal. If you want to help out, reply to me! |
